Annual English Language Week 2016

            The annual English Language Week was held in SMK St. Teresa from 13th June 2016 until 17th June 2016 (Monday to Friday). More than 120 students took part in the compeititons held during English Language Week. The students-in-charge and the teachers-in-charge who were also the judges, were very responsible as they ensured that participants follow the regulations of the competitions.

            The poetry recital was held from Monday to Thursday during recess for both the students of the morning and afternoon sessions. Participants recited poems via a microphone in the gazebo near the canteen. This event was divided into two categories that is, Category A for the morning session students and Category B for the afternoon session students. 12 students took part in the poetry recital.

            On Tuesday, the public speaking competition took place in the Teresian Hall from 8:00 a.m. until around 11:30 a.m. Half an hour before the competition, the students-in-charge gave a workshop on tips to present a public speech well. 12 students presented a prepared speech and an impromptu speech.  Then, the  judges judged them based on their delivery.

            On Wednesday, before the Scrabble event took place, a group consisting of 15 choral speakers presented a performance entitled ‘Technology Overload’. They performed on the stage of the Teresian Hall at 1:00p.m. That afternoon, a Scrabble workshop was held in the band room from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The participants attended a Scrabble workshop half an hour before the competition began. Just like the public speaking competition, the Scrabble competition was also divided into two categories. Altogether, 71 students took part in the Scrabble competition.

            The Spell-It-Right challenge was held in the Teresian Hall on Thursday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. This participants were given words by the judges to be spelt.

            The Rap-It challenge was held on the last day of the English Language Week. The Rap-It challenge was open to every student in SMK St. Teresa. 8 teams showed off their talents and rapped on the stage of the Teresian Hall. The competition took place between 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

            The objective of the Language Week held was to teach language skills, widen students' vocabulary and also promote teamwork among the participants. Attractive prizes worth RM900 were to be given to the winners. The winners would be announced during the next assembly.
